Instructions

Initial Setup

Insert 5V USB power supply into the outlet that you are wanting to find the breaker.

If locating a breaker for a standard light socket, screw the E27 fixture adapter in to the bulb socket, then insert the 5V USB power supply in to the E27 adapter. Ensure the light switch is in the ON position.

Insert BreakerBuddy™ into the USB port located on the 5V USB power supply.

The red light should illuminate on BreakerBuddy™ indicating the outlet/socket is live and has power. If the BreakerBuddy™ light doesn’t illuminate, we encourage you to check the socket or outlet with an electrical appliance or use an electrical tester to check if there is power at the socket or outlet you are connecting to.

If the outlet or circuit is powered and the RED light did not illuminate on BreakerBuddy™, check your connections in the above steps and try again. If BreakerBuddy™ still doesn’t illuminate we recommend that you contact customer service using the contact information on this instruction sheet.

Once BreakerBuddy™ is inserted in the receptacle or socket, and the BreakerBuddy™ module is illuminated you will need to link to your choice of Smartphone or Tablet using WiFi.

Connecting & Testing

Open your device WiFi menu & ensure that WiFi is turned on.

Select "Breaker Buddy" in your WiFi menu. The BreakerBuddy™ module will now connect to your device. You may have to select “Connect” once BreakerBuddy™ is chosen.

Your device may ask for a network password. Enter: 12345678

Your device may report back that an internet connection is not available. This is acceptable. Choose OK and continue. Internet will not be available as you are connected to the “Breaker Buddy” network.

For instructions on how to access your device WiFi menu, refer to the manufacturer’s instruction manual that was supplied along with your device.

Once the connection is made from your device to the BreakerBuddy™, open your web browser on your device and type the following address: 192.168.4.1 in the address bar. This will take you the BreakerBuddy™ Disclaimer page.

We suggest bookmarking this location to your devices desktop for easy access the next time you use your BreakerBuddy™. See your device manufacturer’s instructions to bookmark the website.

Once you type in the address and press go, your BreakerBuddy™ module will communicate to your device showing the Disclaimer page. The user must acknowledge the disclaimer each time the BreakerBuddy™ is powered. Please use extreme caution around all electrical circuits. Only certified electricians should work on, modify or troubleshoot any electrical circuit. The BreakerBuddy™ product is intended only as a diagnostic tool to help associate light sockets and/or electrical outlets to your home’s electrical panel and corresponding breakers.

If the circuit is live, you will see a screen stating:
“Monitoring Circuit Connection...”

The system is checking the circuit.

Once power is seen, your device will show a WARNING SIGN in RED stating:
“Circuit is LIVE”

If the system times out or immediately states that you have found the breaker, you may be out of range.

Return to the outlet or socket, reconnect and try again. If the problem continues, you are potentially trying to utilize the module beyond the accessible range. The system is not able to communicate to your device.

At this time, you can go to the breaker box in your home and begin flipping breaker switches one at a time.

Continue until the testing page changes it’s status. A power interruption will be detected within 5 seconds.

When a power interruption is detected, the status page updates.

Most phones and tablets will switch to another WiFi signal when one is lost. However, if you do not have an auto connect set up on your device, or if your device is not programmed to log on to the local WiFi, the page may time out without switching. This is an indication that the BreakerBuddy™ has lost power and the outlet or socket that you are connected to is no longer powered. This means that you have located the correct breaker.

The status page updates again when power is not detected.

Return to the socket or outlet that the BreakerBuddy™ is connected to. The red LED light on the BreakerBuddy™ module should NOT be on. This is an indication that the socket or outlet no longer has power.

The BreakerBuddy™ system is meant to locate the breaker for a circuit, it is not intended to be used as an electrician’s tool to determine if power is present in a circuit.

It is the responsibility of the electrician or DIY user to use certified tools to check the validity of the circuit. It is also recommended that any warning, changing of fixtures or receptacles should be done by a licensed electrical contractor.
